Bandar Chhaap becomes Baanar

Fellow Baanars!

You know that we were in a fix about our name, it being too long, et all. And after much discussion, we have decided to become — Baanar.com!

I will confess that I was deeply attached to Bandar chhaap. To me it conveyed the brand best — fun, tradition, optimistic, etc. but over time the realisation that it was too long for a nemonic, that it would mean spelling errors, and that it would be harder to reach online, made it a choice that was to be made sooner or later.

Where ‘Bandar Chhaap’ meant ‘Monkey Brand’; ‘Baanar’ just means ‘Monkey’ in my native tongue – Maithili. And being part of the monkeyverse, I wanted to keep the monkey aspect of it even going forward.

We were toying with other names as well, some that felt more grounded in crafts and culture, and were closer to existing products that are in the organic and sustainable space. But meh to that!

So yes. Welcome to the Baanar store

MORE Pepper and Turmeric!

Names aside, we have also been working hard to improve our products and update our catalogue. A mouth watering addition to our catalogue is the new Meghalayan pepper. If you just smell it, you will be able to tell how good this pepper is.

It is packed with 5% more Piperine then usual. And has a bold flavour, natural heat, and powerful health benefits. Rich in antioxidants and digestive properties, this traditional kitchen staple helps fight inflammation and supports nutrient absorption. We add no preservatives to our products so you can be assured that its the best thing for your diet.

Also, remember we sold out our Turmeric, well we have restocked!

Our Lakadong Turmeric is a traditional variety known for its high Curcumin content (7–12%), compared to the usual ‘haldi’ which only has about 2–3%. Lakadong is packed with even more of the good stuff that supports your immunity, helps with inflammation, keeps your skin happy, and may even lift your mood on low days. It’s antibacterial, antiviral, detoxifying — basically, a natural all-rounder that’s been used in Indian kitchens and home remedies for generations.

Website and Branding

As we transition from Bandar Chhaap, we are also trying to understand how better to describe our products without sounding like we are trying to sell too hard. The point of getting into this business was that we were tired of the poor quality of products, so it is important that we write about it. We changed our landing page copy to start with, and though it is much longer then it should be, for now it works. It’s honest about we do, and that is always a good idea.

Baanar description

At Baanar, we are bringing together makers, growers, and dreamers who still believe in doing things the old way. From hand-grown organic spices, chemical-free skincare and bamboo crafts, everything we create is rooted in tradition and made for modern living.

Thoughtful, sustainable, and a little unexpected — just the way it should be.

Speaking of websites, we also transitioned from Shopify to WordPress. Shopify was too expensive for the tools it offered. As we add to our product line I feel the landing page will get better. But for now it works like a charm.

That’s all for today. Do check out our products and buy some for yourself 🙂
