Thousand Arms | Project Update

Hello Drinking Livers!

What began as a hazy sketch—an abstract story about bad habits and minefields of memory—has slowly taken shape into something much more layered. The Thousand Arms is now structured around what we’re calling the four unravellings of Zen: Skin (the surface), Flesh (the knower), Bones (consciousness), and Marrow (buddha nature). Each stage reflects a part of Satori’s descent and his long, crooked path back—through addiction, loss, self-searching, and eventually, the strange clarity of sobriety, which turns out to be its own kind of mystery.

Without giving too much away, the new landing page now does a better job of holding the space. We’ve added a story introduction, cleaned up the about section, and consolidated all previous blogs into a single thread for easier reading.

Story Development Updates

  • Satori’s character arc finally has the weight and tension it needed.
  • Prajna’s storyline has been rewritten to feel more human and essential.
  • Even the parents—who earlier felt like placeholders—now hold emotional ground.
  • We’ve trimmed away weaker plotlines and dropped several characters from earlier drafts.
  • We’re currently at Draft 10, which, from experience, means we’re only about a quarter of the way there. (Painfully honest, but true.)
  • The Multi-pager Synopsis is also almost ready for its first full draft. Or at least that is how it feels right now.

And since we are putting all out efforts into cleaning up our characters and story, there has been no updates on the visual development 🙁

Research Updates
Our parallel research effort—Mind of My Mind—which seeded this entire story in the first place, is also starting to grow roots. We’re working on making the research dashboard public and accessible to anyone interested in the emotional and physiological patterns behind addiction.

We also updated our project description:

“Investigating the effects of alcohol on a person’s relationship with their gut, memory, emotional development, and decision-making—blended with traditional Eastern wisdom.”

More soon. The arms are still growing.
