Baanar in February
My fellow Baanars,
This is a short update. But do not mistake our silence for…
Silence!
We’ve been in transit because the studio is moving cities. And if you’ve ever packed up a creative space, you’ll know that it’s less about cardboard boxes and more about rediscovering things you meant to forget. haha
No seriously. It’s hectic!
But…Between the chaos of relocation and other ‘raita’ in life, we’ve also been meeting friends we’ve wanted to collaborate with. Makers. Printers. People who understand materials like the ‘wrinkles on their palm’.
And quietly, almost stubbornly we are shaping for the year ahead. A large part of the last month has been product scouting.
So guess what! We have been playing with materials.
And scouting for designers. But more on that in another update. Because finances!
Baanar is built around objects that feel like they’ve come from somewhere. Even if that somewhere is fictional. There are some exciting additions brewing for this year. We’re not announcing them yet. But the direction feels sharper. And we are more confident then we were last year.
But Then There is The The Dreaded Marketing Calendar
Let’s address it. Yes, there is a marketing calendar. Yes, we’ve been avoiding it slightly.
Honestly, I have been avoiding it! Since last month, we haven’t promoted our content as consistently as we should have. Partly because of the move. Partly because we’re still figuring out how Baanar wants to speak. And it’s a bit messed up.
But here’s the shift.
Instead of random bursts of activity, we are trying to build a map of rhythms. Something we are happy with. Something that tells the story of the objects. How they’re made, why they exist, what they’re responding to. But as some of you might know. This is not an easy task. Much like the worldbuilding process behind The Thousand Arms, Baanar is evolving through iteration rather than speed.
So time! We are okay if takes us some time to figure this out.
What’s Coming Next
In the coming month, we will be investing more time and energy into producing more content around our products. Yes, it’s marketing. But it’s also an excuse to get our hands dirty and shoot, experiment, to build small visual worlds around the objects.
We’re interested in showing:
- Material texture
- Print detail
- Wear and tear
- The mood around the product
Not just clean catalogue shots.
Baanar has always been about attitude as much as product. This year, we want that to be visible.
